Parks

  The award-winning Fairfax County Park Authority manages over 30,000 acres of parkland. The  Park Authority operates 420 parks, eight recreation centers, five nature centers, a working farm and mill, equestrian trails, seven public golf courses, 10 Farmer's Markets, and 11 off-leash dog parks. The parks offer classes, children activities, and many recreational activities, both indoors and outdoors.

  NOVA Parks (aka the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority) maintains the 45-mile W&OD Trail, one of the nation’s premier linear parks, which bisects Fairfax County, along with parks that offer great access to the Potomac and Occoquan rivers.

Green Spring Gardens

Green Spring Gardens offers an outdoor classroom, a museum, and a national historic site. The park has a wooded stream valley with ponds, a naturalistic native plant garden, more than 20 thematic demonstration gardens, a greenhouse, a plant shop, two gift shops, a historic house, and a horticultural reference library. The gardens and educational programs focus on practical landscaping techniques that are appropriate for the Washington metro area.
